Making Sense of the Future

What is Family Mediation?

Family Mediators help you as a couple to explore ways of resolving disputes or making arrangements on a range of matters related to your separate living. As mediators we are impartial. We seek to help both of you equally. We do not impose a settlement but assist you to reach an agreement about financial matters and what arrangements you are going to make for your children.Mediation is an even handed process and all information or correspondence will be shared equally with both of you except for any confidential addresses. The process is without prejudice (ie not legally binding). Any detailed financial disclosure which you are asked to complete in financial mediation is shared. We prepare summaries of agreements reached and you are encouraged to have your solicitors put these into legally binding form at the conclusion of the process.

What are the advantages of Mediation?

The process of mediation helps to remove bitterness. You are both given the chance to state your own aims and requirements. As the agreements which you reach are yours - negotiated together - they are ones with which you both feel comfortable. Mediation produces an outcome that is your own, not imposed. For those of you with children, it will be the foundation of your continuing relationship as parents.Mediation produces an outcome of your choice. You are encouraged to seek advice at any stage during the process from your own solicitors if you feel that it would be helpful to making informed decisions.
